The House this afternoon approved an extension of funding for all Departments and agencies through January 19, 2018 by a vote of 231-188.  This third Continuing Resolution means that full year funding will not be resolved until mid January, assuming that an agreement on spending caps for defense and non-defense programs can be achieved.  This bill also delays OMB sequestration of domestic spending for 15 days, which otherwise would have happened on January 15 absent this action.  The bill does provide funding for the Children’s Health Insurance Program and some other health programs through March 31, 2018, leaving the CHIP funding issue to be resolved early next year as well.  A summary of the bill provided by the House Appropriations Committee can be found here.

The House also approved an $81 billion supplemental for disaster assistance for Puerto Rico, the United States Virgin Islands, and States affected by wildfires occurring in calendar year 2017 or Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria.  The vote was 251-169.   A summary of this bill provided by the House Appropriations Committee can be found here.

The Senate is expected to take up these bills this evening, and following Senate action the President is expected to sign them.
